If you ever need an ENT in Huntsville go to Dr. Michael McFadden… he’s AWESOME.

Good News!

September 12th, 2008

I got a call from my ENT today and the stenosis I have is the “easy one to fix”.  Whew.  He sounded very confident in performing the procedure.  It will require a 1-5 day hospital stay but shouldn’t be too difficult to recover from.  He has gotten most of the lab work back from my blood tests and they have all been negative so far for autoimmune disease.  Another WHEW.  He’s decided to move my appointment up to Monday so we can get in there and get the surgery scheduled to “get it over with”.  After that we’ll just have to monitor the problem and make sure it doesn’t start happening again since we didn’t find any reason for it so far.

A dear old friend of mine shared this quote with me today and I couldn’t agree more.  Thanks Mike!

I feel very blessed today.  I have great friends and great family that I love very much.

Diagnosis - Subglottic Stenosis

September 11th, 2008

Well I went to the doctor yesterday and got good/bad news… the good news is I finally know what is causing my breathing problems… the bad news is it is pretty serious.

http://www.thoracicmedicine.org/article.asp?issn=1817-1737;year=2006;volume=1;issue=1;spage=28;epage=30;aulast=Al-Otair

Subglottic stenosis is a serious and sometimes life- threatening condition. It results from narrowing of the subglottic airway, which is housed in the cricoid cartilage. It is the narrowest area of the airway, since it is a complete, non expandable and a non pliable ring. Stenosis in this area can be congenital, which is usually diagnosed during childhood, or acquired. Typically, acquired subglottic stenosis has an insidious onset, where early manifestations are usually mistaken for other respiratory disorders, like bronchial asthma and bronchitis.

The doctor isn’t sure what is causing this problem yet.  He says there may be an underlying disease causing it.  This morning I went to get some blood work done and a cat scan to figure that part out.  There is also a chance that they can’t figure out what is causing it.  I read a report of a patient with subglottic stenosis with no known underlying condition. She was misdiagnosed as a case of refractory bronchial asthma for few years (SAME AS ME!!!), until her condition was finally diagnosed with the help of spirometry and fibroptic bronchoscopy. They were able to sucessfully open her wind pipe up with a surgical procedure and she has been doing well since then.  I am hoping I am blessed with the same outcome.

Here is a youtube link to the procedure I think I’ll be going through.

I’ll post more information later.

Letter Art. SO COOL

August 27th, 2008

I love art.  Especially unique art.  This summer, at the beach, I happened on a little store that sold Letter Art… We really didn’t have time to look so sadly I didn’t get a chance to buy any.  Well tonight I found it online by accident while searching for fonts.  http://www.letterperspectives.com/

What’s the point…

August 27th, 2008

of this blog site… well I don’t think I’ve decided that yet.  It’s a little geek mixed with a little mommy… hey that’s me!  Though I’m not really a geek… really I’m not… it’s just my job.  But I am definitly a mommy.  And so like all good mommy’s I have to take my moments to brag and today is definitly a day for bragging.  Noah got his progress report today and had ALL A’s!!!!  Woo Hoo!  I’m so proud of him.  He is in first grade this year and is doing great.
